In honor of our latest snarky phrase, we thought we'd pass along a few tips on exactly how you can fast from people. It sounds like a simple thing to do but we like to be creative about it anyway.
1) Plan Your Time
Whether you decide on a day or a full week off from people, plan ahead of time to keep your break on track. Is there a show you've been meaning to binge watch or a movie that you just hadn't had the time to see? Are there some arts or crafts that have just been staring at you begging to be completed? Stack your day to the brim with activities to keep you busy and keep you company while you leave people alone. And, most importantly, don't forget to plan the snacks. Days off require major snackage.
2) Don't Beat Yourself Up
If you're an overachiever (like we tend to be), it can be hard to truly take a break. You'll sit and watch your show which will remind you of some work you still have to do. DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT. The work will still be there after your much needed break. Use the notes app on your phone to take a note of anything that crosses your mind to do later. Then get right back into being productively lazy. You've earned it.
3) Schedule The Next Break
Ideally, we give ourselves mini-breaks so that we won't feel overwhelmed and just disappear. So take the opportunity to feel grateful for the time off from people and then go ahead and schedule the next one. Give yourself something to look forward to!
Bonus Tip:
Tell your loved ones that you need a break. The ones who love you know you already but just to be considerate, send out a brief text/email/smoke signal letting someone know that you are okay but you just need a break.
Those are VIGOUR's three ways to fast from people. Were any of these tips helpful? What do you plan to do on your next break from the world?
